Carnival in Grand Yoff

While Robyn and Pil are visiting Casamance in the south of Senegal, I'm still in Dakar, trying to do some of my work. But I still found some time for fun today when I went to the Carnival in Grand Yoff, one of the neighborhoods of Dakar. It was a community event, involving a parade of horse carts with young people dressed up in different costumes and traditional clothing, followed by dancing and music. Some friends and I went dressed up in our boubous and we were actually in the parade, sitting on the back of the horse cart, waving at people who found it hilarious to see all of these "toubabs" (i.e. white people) in traditional Senegalese outfits. This picture is of the huge number of kids running behind and along side us during the parade.
